Life Skills Training Center, LLC is a locally owned business. Our goal is to provide our community with the knowledge and skills needed to respond to emergency situations confidently by teaching CPR/AED and First Aid training in a stress free environment.
In addition, we offer classes in Home Health Aide and Nursing Assistant. Our students are taught care giving skills, professionalism, customer service and are taught in alignment with the guidelines set by the Virgin Islands Board of Nurse Licensure.
Velma Freeman-Walter is an energetic and ambitious leader who comes from a family of health professionals
Her mother was a nurse who became ill early on in her career. She has a great aunt and two maternal aunts that are retired nurses. She has several cousins who are also nurses. Prior to becoming a nurse, Velma worked for the Department of Health | Emergency Medical Services as an Emergency Medical Technician for almost 10 years. Velma also served in the Virgin Islands National Guard as a combat medic for 15 years. This is where she was first introduced to the healthcare field. Her love for helping her community grew and calling for nurturing the sick would be evident to her as she was the caregiver to both of her parents.
Velma is a 1990 graduate of the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School. Velma attended the University of the Virgin Islands where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Later, she earned a Master’s degree in Nursing Education and Nursing Management from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.
Velma is a Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the U.S. Virgin Islands and certified by the American Heart Association as a BLS and Heart Saver instructor.
Mrs. Velma Freeman-Walter is currently employed at the Bureau of Corrections as a nurse manager. In addition, she has worked as a per diem instructor at the Ralph O. Wheatley Skill Center Practical Nursing Program and at Hands on Care, LLC as an instructor for Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide.
